1200 Bank Told Use It Or Lose It

1200 Bank – Developer Paul Giegerich and partner Amsterdam Billiards out of New York is planning on turning a vacant bank at 12th and Chestnut into an upscale billiard hall, named 1200 Bank, has been told that construction must begin within 6 months or the project will lose the zoning approval. 1200 Bank’s developer would retain much of the historic charm and detail of the former Beneficial Bank building. The sunset provision was inserted becausse City Council felt that zoning approval was not being used and that another developer should be given the opportunity to develop the project if Giegerich and Amsterdam didn’t plan on completing 1200 Bank.  The proposed project for 1200 Bank looks awesome and the pool hall comes with a rooftop lounge!

The restoration of 1200 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, a long-vacant landmark building to its former grandeur, has begun. The plans for 1200 Bank retain the building’s historic beauty, while adding a touch of “now.”

The revitalized 1200 Bank building will soon become home to a 5,000 square foot rooftop lounge (the largest in the city), a gilded lobby with 15 professional billiard tables and other interactive games, a mezzanine level bar & restaurant designed for both socializing and spectating, and a storied former boardroom for private events.

The floodlit marble columns outside coupled with the one-of-a-kind experience inside, will make 1200 Chestnut a beacon for locals, tourists and conventioneers looking for a unique high- end experience.

This breath of fresh air will extend beyond the front steps and not only help to revitalize Chestnut Street east of Broad, but serve as an anchor for further development in the surrounding area, as well as provide a unique entertainment venue, new business, new jobs and day, and evening and late night pedestrian traffic.

I think 1200 Bank sounds great for Center City Philly and I’m hoping the that the developer is able to meet City Council’s deadline.
