Big-box retailer Target will open its fifth Philadelphia location in Northern Liberties, it was announced today. The store will be another of the city-style models that Target has opened already. Like a normal chain store it will carry home goods, pharmacy, clothing, and food, but it will have fewer square feet and have a more curated selection of items.
The company signed a lease for part of the former Destination Maternity warehouse located at 456 North 5th Street, just north of Center City. Within Center City proper Target has two stores already: one 23,000-square-foot store at 12th and Chestnut (the retailer’s first downtown Philadelphia location) and another 22,000-square-foot store at 19th and Chestnut. Another location just opened in Roxborough at the Ivyridge shopping center. The fourth store will hold its grand opening in October at 20th and Callowhill at the site of a former Whole Foods store.
Target anticipates a July 2018 opening for its new store. As a bonafide Target lover myself, I couldn’t be happier for Northern Liberties!
