Ice Skating and Winter Fun Kick Off in Dilworth Park

Halloween may be still a vivid memory, but winter will officially begin in Center City with the start of one of our best-beloved cold-weather traditions. The ice skating rink at Dilworth Park will open this coming weekend! This eagerly-anticipated event is just one of several seasonal treats planned for city residents at the park, which was formerly Dilworth Plaza.

The ice rink is sponsored by Rothman Orthopaedics, which is committed to inclusive fun for all. So this year they will again feature sled skating for disabled kids and adults. With one fully-able adult to pull, this is a great time! Reservations and a purchased ticket are required. Pick one up at the Capital One Cafe, or by visiting the Rothman Ice Rink’s website.

Ice skating will start November 8th and take place seven days a week through the month of February. The fun kicks off at 6:30 each evening, once darkness has descended on the park, allowing skaters to enjoy the special holiday lighting throughout the square. But that’s not all. There’s also a heated cabin on site, constructed for skaters to kick off their blades and warm up a bit with spiked hot chocolate and other grown-up libations featuring Maker’s Mark and Jim Beam Apple, along with craft beers from Victory Brewing and Stella Artois. Snacks and treats will also be served at reasonable rates.

While you’re on site, you can check out the serene, beautiful Wintergarden, filled with seasonal greenery and places to sit and chat. Later this season, coming to Dilworth Park will be the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market where, in the tradition of Christmas markets around the world, shoppers can peruse handmade holiday gifts in a charming setting. The eye-popping Deck the Hall Holiday Light Show is another can’t-miss festivity, projected against the west side of City Hall.
