It’s one of Philly’s most-loved holiday traditions: the themed pop-up bar. In the space last used by Tinsel, Teddy Sourias and Craft Concepts Group will create The Nightmare Before Tinsel, an ooky-spooky Halloween-themed pop-up that is almost guaranteed to become the most ‘grammed hotspot in Center City this October.
The space, located at 116 S. 12th Street in Midtown Village at the site of a former jewelry store, will be revamped from wall to wall to bring in nightmarish props and decor that will scare your pants off while also providing a cozy spot to drink seasonal cocktails. From Broadway World:
Exhibits, props, decorations and photo opportunities will range from scary and gory, to ironic and funny, the retro and vintage.
Bring your phone fully charged for photo ops including a haunted casket, zombie and skull walls, and a dedicated selfie room of 1,001 eyeballs, all staring right at you. There will be plenty of inspo drawn from Philadelphia’s very own Edgar Allen Poe. The centerpiece of the bar, hanging where the gift chandelier is normally placed right over the bar, will be given to a bar top that honors “ghosts of the past, present, and future,” designed by local artist Scott Johnston.
Oh, and make sure you come thirsty for something other than hot Halloween eye candy. The extensive drink list will feature lots of autumn beers, as well as specialty cocktails like Witches’ Bru and a candy-corn-inspired drink inspired by the seasonal sweet that was first created in Philadelphia! Several drinks will feature take-home souvenirs so that you’ll always have a little piece of the Nightmare with you! Skilled mixologists from BRU, Tradesman’s, Blume, Finn McCools, Tinsel, and Uptown Beer Garden will keep you well-hydrated in between rounds of the Monster Mash. Weekday happy hour specials ensure that the party stays rocking all through the month.
Costumes are welcomed and encouraged in Nightmare Before Tinsel, but optional. I, for one, can’t wait to see the pics that this place inspires!
