Federal Donits is bringing back the "Iggle" fancy donut just for NFL opening day tomorrow.

On a scale of 1 – 10, how HYPED are you about the start of the NFL season this Thursday? I know, for me personally, the hype train is speeding around at about 120 miles per hour. Who doesn’t want to see what the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles, are going to pull out this year? Expectations are high, and the excitement is even higher. News broke earlier this week that the Iggles would be starting dark horse quarterback Nick Foles, who took over when the Eagles’ star quarterback Carson Wentz tore two ligaments in his leg last year. Foles rode his lucky shot all the way to Super Bowl victory, and Philly loves him for it. Thursday is sure to be an enthralling day. For those with a sweet tooth, it will be even better: Federal Donuts is re-releasing their signature Eagles donut for Thursday only.

The donut in question is called the “Iggle” and it is a fancy variety: a pillowy cake doughnut wrapped in a brilliant kelly green glaze, sprinkled generously with green and silver sugar. It was first introduced by Federal Donuts in January before the Super Bowl, back in the halcyon days when police were greasing lampposts with Crisco and every trashcan was a risk for a potential celebratory bonfire. The Iggle is a gentler way to celebrate your Eagles-mania, and it’s damn tasty as well.

From Eater Philly:

On September 6, it will be sold at all four Philly standalone shops: in Center City (1632 Sansom Street), West Philly (3428 Sansom Street), South Philly (1219 S. 2nd Street), and North Philly (701 N. 7th Street). It’s going for $2.75, or get six for $13 or 12 for $24. Pre-order here.

Fans of Federal Donuts have more to look forward to than just a one-day special donut. Coming soon (by the end of this month!) the beloved Philly chain will have a new location at 540 South Street, right on the corner of 6th and South. Having a new place to get your fried-chicken-and-donuts fix is IMPORTANT BUSINESS, as you know.
