Some people love shopping for shoes. For others, it’s a real chore. For parents, shopping for their kids’ shoes is a major stressor, especially when the start of the school year approaches. Shoe sizing for children is especially difficult, both because children experience frequent growth spurts that lead to improper fit and because sizes are not standard between shoe brands. Man, don’t you wish there was a way to take the hassle out if shopping for children’s shoes?
Enter Jenzy. Jenzy is an app created by two Philadelphia moms, Eve Ackerley and Carolyn Horner. The app helps with kids’ shoe sizing and ordering the perfectly-sized shoes for your little one. The pair said that they had previously considered making an app for adult shoe sizing, but after a frustrating trip to the shoe store with a young relative, they realized the need for a kids’ app was much more pressing. They were originally going to size and sell shoes for children up to the age of 14, but decided to narrow their focus and stick to ages newborn through six years old.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, “Ackerley said she and Horner spent over a year beta testing the app with around 300 moms, which allowed them to streamline the process and make it as user-friendly as possible. The app is able to measure foot size by using the smartphone’s camera to compare the child’s foot with a standard credit card. Beta testing also exposed them to a gap in the shoe-shopping market. Other sizing apps are aimed at adults, and sales sites such as Zappos and Amazon don’t offer a sizing feature.”
The Jenzy team has partnered with 12 high-quality shoe manufacturers, choosing those brands that focused on fit and function.
Right now Jenzy is a small operation, with only Ackerly and Horner working on orders. They currently sell 55 different shoe styles, one of which could be perfect for your little one!
