Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Today, Center City was filled with the sounds of revving engines and vrooming tires as racecars sped through the streets. These weren’t just any fast cars, either. To the delight of fans, NASCAR and XFINITY paired up again for the annual NASCAR XFINITY Philadelphia Takeover. The cars zipped all over the City of Brotherly Love, zooming between Center City and South Philadelphia.

Some of the NASCAR superstars who were in town for the event were Christopher Bell, Spencer Boyd, Chase Briscoe, Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Cole Custer, and Jeffrey Earnhardt, said NBC10. Drivers posed in victorious poses in front of the Rocky statue, lighting up Twitter with fan pictures.

“It’s so cool..to reach some fans,” Chastain told NBC10 on his arrival in Philadelphia following this past weekend’s races at Dover. “We’re gonna do some burnouts, it’s going to be loud.”

According to NASCAR.com: “A record 21 drivers across 12 teams were in Philadelphia to greet fans while promoting next month’s Pocono Green 250 (June 2 at 1 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). In addition to Pocono Raceway, Dover International Speedway — site of the most recent Xfinity Series race — was involved in this event.”

The NASCAR XFINITY Philadelphia Takeover began around 11:15 a.m. outside the Comcast Center on JFK Boulevard in Center City. Fans were lined up all along the racecourse to get an up-close look at the four-wheeled speed machines. At midday, the racecars were running laps around City Hall, kicking up smoke. Per NBC10: “The NASCAR parade also includes pit stops at Pat’s and Geno’s in South Philly, the Rocky Steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Franklin Institute on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Reading Terminal Market and Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies/Giants game.”

Racecar drivers also took time out of their schedules to do meet-and-greets with Philadelphia STEM students.
