By now, you’ve undoubtedly attained maximum hype over the Philadelphia Eagles’ homecoming parade as they return to the City of Brotherly Love as Superbowl victors. In Philly it’s been one long celebration nonstop since Sunday night, when the home team wiped out the heavily-favored New England Patriots in Minneapolis. This parade will be a momentous occasion for sure, as it honors the team’s first Lombardi Trophy.

Getting to the event may prove to be a challenge, however. SEPTA announced that it was releasing 50,000 regional train tickets on Tuesday, and those rapidly sold out. According to WDEL, only prepaid tickets will be honored. More: “SEPTA will only operate its Wilmington/Newark train service from Wilmington, Marcus Hook and Ridley Park to 30th Street Station between the hours of 6:40 a.m. to 9 a.m. Those three northbound trains have a total rider capacity of 2,790.”

There will be no SEPTA train service to/from:

  • Newark Station
  • Fairplay Station at Churchmans Crossing
  • Claymont Station

As for road closings, expect a lot of them as authorities clear the parade route and access streets. Per the Inquirer, “The inner lanes (inbound and outbound) of Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from Eakins Oval to 20th Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. This closure will not be in effect during morning and evening rush hours, and cross streets will remain open to traffic throughout.”

Bikers can expect similar blockages: “There will be no access to the Schuylkill River Trail from the rear of the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Thursday. Westbound travel on the Schuylkill trail will terminate at Paine Skate Park.”

Other closures can be found on this page.

Normal trash collection service will be suspended on Thursday. Those who would normally have their trash collected tomorrow should put it out Friday instead, say city officials.

As for mail, the USPS will try to get services to as many addresses as possible, but some blocked by the parade route may have to wait until Friday to get their mail.
