Attention, Philadelphia: THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THE EAGLES ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!
An exuberant City of Brotherly Love is celebrating today as their beloved NFL team brings home the NFC championship and a ticket to the biggest game of the year. Philadelphia has some of the loudest, proudest fans in the whole League, and the “Iggles” Nation is on fire following a crushing, indisputable takedown of the Minnesota Vikings on the Eagles’ home turf last night.
The victory against Minnesota was brutal in all the best ways. Reuters summed up the heart of the action: “The Vikings looked to tie the game — or at least kick a field goal — late in the first half, but [quarterback Case] Keenum was sacked by Derek Barnett on third-and-5 from the Philadelphia 16. [Chris] Long recovered the fumble. Foles proved his mettle on the ensuing possession as he tossed a spectacular 53-yard touchdown pass to [Alshon] Jeffery on third-and-10, giving the Eagles a 21-7 lead with 1:09 remaining in the half. Foles was able to move around long enough to be able to deliver the deep pass.”
In other words: they didn’t stand a chance!
Once we’re done reeling with joy from the victory, it’s time to sober up and face what’s ahead: possible GOAT (that’s Greatest of All Time) Tom Brady and his New England Patriots, the reigning Super Bowl champions, will be waiting for our boys in Minnesota for what will undoubtedly be a very tough challenge. After taking some initial heat from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Brady and the Patriots rallied in the fourth quarter to come up from behind and win the AFC championship. A juggernaut of a team that has won fifty percent of the last four Super Bowls, the Patriots are going to be a tough team to beat. But make no mistake, the Eagles won’t be cowed by any comers, no matter how impressive. This is our time to shine, Philadelphia! The next two weeks will be an exciting time for sure.
