With Christmas less than a week away and New Year’s Eve coming up right behind it, you can bet that there are many gentlemen (and heck, even some ladies) closely guarding the ultimate Christmas present: an engagement ring. The holiday season is one of the most popular times of the year to get engaged, giving competition to even Valentine’s Day. For a successful proposal, of course you need a ring – they say that the kids these days are favoring precious stones and a pop of color over the traditional diamond – and, these days, you need an Instagram-worthy venue at which to take a knee and ask your love to be yours for life. Where are the best venues in Philadelphia to pop the question? Billy Penn recently pondered the question.

Are you ready to pop the question in the City of Brotherly Love? Here are a few recs for the prettiest, most romantic places to get engaged.

On one hand, you have the classic Philadelphia tourist hotspots. The Rocky steps, the Liberty Bell, City Hall, and the Philadelphia Zoo are all chestnuts that add an unforgettable reminder that you’re in the City of Brotherly Love to your proposal. If you procured your ring somewhere on Jeweler’s Row, proposing in the storefront can be awfully romantic.

Hughe Dillon, photographer and Philly Chit Chat proprietor, recommends the Waterworks, and specifically the pier that overlooks the waterfall. “There’s a beautiful view of Boat House Row as it glows in glorious holiday colors, and then behind you is one of the most spectacular views of the Philly skyline and the Art Museum,” Dillon enthuses. “It’s very romantic, and very Philly. Plus in a decade when you bike by the spot with your kids, you can point out the spot to them.”

Also making the recommendation list were the LOVE or AMOR statues, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, favorite restaurants and the City Hall observation deck.

Philly is filled with spots that will make for a picture-perfect proposal. No matter where you choose, Philadelphia is a wonderful, enchanting place to get engaged.
