A Christmas-themed pop-up bar is ready to turn your holiday season merrier than ever. Tinsel Christmas Pop-up Bar is coming to town – and you need not wait until Christmas Eve to enjoy the treats you get here. The bar, located at 116 S. 12th Street, takes up the space vacated by the former Simpson’s Jewelry space. Bedecked in holiday lights and evergreen wreaths, it’s not hard to figure out what Tinsel is all about.
The bar is the creation of Teddy Sourias, whose long list of achievements include BRU, U-Bahn, Cinder, Uptown Beer Garden and Finn McCool’s Ale House. Sourias said that he was “excited” to extend his brand into Midtown Village. He had previously purchased the space on 12th Street and wanted to keep it in use while finalizing plans for its future. A pop-up bar, lasting until just December 31st, seemed to fit the bill exactly.
According to Metro USA, “Tinsel Christmas Pop-up Bar features three rooms decked out in holiday flare, complete with Christmas decorations, holiday lights, a toy train and Christmas tree. There’s even a custom Krampus mural, designed by local artist Scott Johnston, for those jolly revelers who may have been more naughty than nice this year.” A central point of the establishment is the 25-foot long bar counter, which used to be a jewelry counter. It seats twelve people on bar stools.
For patrons, there is a lengthy list of Christmas-inspired cocktails, along with winter specialty beers, focusing on American and Belgian ales. To kick off the season, the draft list will include Troegs Mad Elf (spiced holiday ale, cherries, honey), Hardywood Bourbon Gingerbread Stout (boubon aged milk stout, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla) and Chimay Grande Reserve (Belgian strong, dark ale beer). For food, there will be appetizers, sandwiches, and, of course, Christmas cookies.
Tinsel is open Tuesday through Sunday until New Year’s Eve.
