1.) Philadelphia has been toppled from its spot as the fifth most-populous city in the country… by Phoenix, Arizona. The Census Bureau reported last week that, while the City of Brotherly Love is experiencing consistent growth, it simply isn’t a match for the Southwest city. Philly gains, on average, eight new residents a day, according to a Census report. Phoenix, on the other hand, gains 88. Phoenix is also almost four times the geographic area of Philly, clocking in at 517 square miles (half the size of Rhode Island!) to Philadelphia’s 135 square miles. According to the Morning Call, “The census found that 10 of the 15 fastest-growing large cities with populations of 50,000 or more were in the South, and four of the top five were in Texas.” The top most populous U.S. cities are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston.
2.) Want to audition for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Philadelphia, you will have your chance on June 7th! Open auditions for the game show competition will be held at Sugarhouse Casino, 1001 N. Delaware Ave. Would-be contestants must be 18 years old and bring a photo identification and proof of age. According to the Philadelphia Patch, the day’s schedule is as follows:
Auditionees under the age of 21 are by no means allowed on the casino floor, so they must enter by the North Entrance near the Parking Garage and take the elevators to the 2nd floor to gain access to the event.
3.) “Good Morning America” is coming to Philadelphia on Friday. The morning talk show will be broadcasting live from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Karabots Pediatric Care Center in West Philadelphia, with ABC News’ Gio Benitez reporting. The area, located at 4865 Market Street, will be open to the public, but VIP tickets will be available online. CHOP’s Karabots Pediatric Care Center features two stories, 52,000 square feet, and 56 child-friendly exam rooms.
