To many jaded Philadelphians, the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) exists solely to make their lives miserable with strict parking rules, arcane signage that doesn’t actually let you know if you can park in a spot, and parking tickets… lots and lots of parking tickets. Philadelphia has something of a reputation for being a city where parking is tough, and the Parking Authority is not unaware of that issue. To that end, the PPA is encouraging city drivers to sign up for their event, “Parking 101: A Workshop on Avoiding Parking Tickets.” As the name suggests, the purpose of the workshop is to help drivers better understand parking rules and signage. “We want parking your vehicle to be the least of your worries when you drive in the city to work, play or visit,” the PPA stated on their website introducing the workshop.
The workshop will take place on June 17th at the Philadelphia Parking Authority headquarters at Seventh and Market streets from 10 a.m. to noon. It is free to attend, but spaces are limited – kind of like parking in the city – so would-be participants are encouraged to sign up early by contacting [email protected] to RSVP before the deadline of June 9 by 5 p.m.
The PPA mentions that the workshop is ideal for four kinds of people. Those who get parking tickets, those who find the street parking signage confusing, those who hate parallel parking, and everyone who wants to avoid tickets and learn how to park safely in Philadelphia. At the workshop, the Authority boasts, you will “hear from your own Parking Enforcement Officers the tricks to avoid tickets and readily understand any parking sign you may come across!” and “learn tips on parking and driving safety for two and four wheeled vehicles!” There will also be a certified driving instructor on hand to give one-on-one lessons in parallel parking.
Attendees will receive two additional complimentary hours of parking at the Parkade on 8th parking garage to take in the sights and enjoy nearby dining and entertainment venues.
