The food delivery service UberEATS is expanding its coverage of the Philadelphia market, as well as adding a slew of new features that will improve the experience for users.
UberEATS started life as a service called UberFRESH in 2014, and was an extension of the ride-sharing Uber app. Like Uber, it is based in San Francisco. It was originally available only in California. It got its new name a year later and was released as a standalone app, meaning that customers did not need to install Uber to have access to the food delivery service. When the app started out, it had only 1,000 restaurant partners. Now it has expanded worldwide and has paired with over 46,000 eateries across six continents, 24 countries, and 71 cities.
Philadelphia was one of the 25 cities that UberFRESH chose to pilot its delivery services when it first expanded outside of California. Today, business is booming in the City of Brotherly Love and over 700 restaurants have partnered with the app. Philly coverage now includes “Center City, South Philadelphia; North Philadelphia and Temple University, Northern Liberties and Fishtown; University City; the Main Line; Manayunk; Conshohocken; Chestnut Hill; and most of the southwest and northeast suburbs,” as per the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Last week, UberEATS announced a bunch of exciting new features. Searching now has built-in filters, so that diners can choose a restaurant based on price, speed of service, or dietary needs. There is more information available about dishes on the menu and their speed of preparation, ensuring that the app accurately predicts how long it will take dinner (or lunch) to arrive. There are now also customized drop-offs. Users can select exactly where they would like food delivered, whether it is at home, at work, or elsewhere, like a picnic lunch in the park. They can leave instructions for the drivers such as “meet at the curb” or “ring the doorbell.” The app now also has the feature of being able to schedule deliveries ahead of time, meaning that you can choose a day and time in advance rather than having to order exactly when you want the food.
