It’s hard to get your day started right without a good cup of coffee. Trust me, I would know – I’m a three-cup-a-day girl myself. Center City residents and workers will now be able to take advantage of one of Philly’s highest-quality caffeine fixes, courtesy of Rival Bros. Coffee. The chain’s second location just opened at at 1528 Spruce St. in the Touraine building.
The Rival Bros. menu includes a range of coffee- and espresso-based bevarages, along with some tasty eats. The coffee is hand-poured and single-origin, brewed in a Chemex. Also available are cold brews and nitro brews on draft, loose-leaf teas, handcrafted sodas, and juices. The coffee bar will be open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Eater Philadelphia says that the new location sports “tables, a long marble-topped counter along the front window, and leather-backed banquettes, with mirrored chandeliers and mosaic tile floors.”
If you are hungry, Rival Bros. offers a range of savory sandwiches. According to Metro Media, these include “The Daily Bread (toast from High Street on Market with organic and grass-fed butter, sea salt and fruit preserves) Peanut Butter Toast (peanut butter with dried figs, maple syrup and vanilla salt) and a “Cubano Style” Sandwich (potato bread, cured ham, Swiss cheese, Kosher pickles and mustard mayo).” There is also bread by the slice or by the loaf, along with miscellaneous pastries. “Sweets from locals Lil Pop Shop, Weckerly’s Ice Cream, Sugar Philly, and Nathan Miller Chocolate, as well as 12 oz. bags of Rival Bros. beans, are also being sold at the new shop.”
This new location is almost 1,750 square feet, or double the size of their original location at 2400 Lombard. There is seating for 30 at the new location, making it more amenable to the hang-out, coffee shop crowd. Plans for a third Rival Bros. location are currently underway.
