Who didn’t grow up playing with Lego bricks? This perennially-popular toy is a favorite with children and grownups alike… you can build just about anything, and the possibilities for creativity and self-expression are boundless. Surely you’ve seen massive displays made out of Legos – I know at Disney Springs I came face-to-face with a life-sized red dragon emerging from the water, all made of the buildable bricks. Lego has long been associated with thinking big, and now the company is inviting your input on its latest HUGE project – a model of the city of Philadelphia, to be installed at the new Legoland Discovery Center Philadelphia, coming in spring of 2017 to the Plymouth Meeting Mall.

The Discovery Center’s Facebook page shared a ballot where entrants could vote for their favorite Philadelphia landmarks to be constructed in Lego bricks for the Philadelphia Miniland. According to UPI.com, “The page shared links encouraging residents to write in locations such as the Liberty Bell, City Hall and popular Philly Cheesesteak restaurants The Original Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks.” Just think of the possibilities! You could pick the Betsy Ross house or even your favorite SEPTA station. Philadelphia’s a big city, so there are plenty of potential landmarks.

The Legoland Discovery Center is intended for kids between the ages of three and ten. The new Philadelphia location broke ground in late October. The Miniland will be made of over a million colorful Lego bricks! It will be the centerpiece of a special place for kids that features “a world of creativity, color and building fun in the ultimate indoor LEGO playground.” There will be a 4-D theater, and building and play areas stocked with thousands of Legos for projects limited only by the imagination.

I’ll keep you updated when I find out more about which Philly landmarks make it to the Lego Miniland!
