Halloween Philly

Philadelphia trick-or-treaters have it better than anywhere else in the country, according to Zillow. Happy Halloween!

1.) Happy Halloween, Philadelphia! All you kids getting dressed up to go and trawl for candy tonight, take heart: Zillow has named Philadelphia as the country’s best city for trick-or-treating. The real estate aggregator site named the City of Brotherly Love as tops for Halloween candy gathering thanks to a combination of home values, the nearness of homes to each other, and the city’s crime rate. But the most important factor of all was Philadelphia’s walkability. Simply put, it is a great place for kids and their families to be out and about on Halloween. Cobbs Creek was named the best neighborhood, followed by Frankford, Logan, Germantown and Fairmount.

2.) According to Donald Trump’s Twitter, his wife, Melania Trump, will be speaking in the Philadelphia suburbs this Thursday. As confirmed by Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, Melania will address voters at the speaking event, which will be her first since her address at the Republican National Convention. That speech didn’t go over so well, as Mrs. Trump was accused of cribbing First Lady Michelle Obama’s remarks at the DNC four years ago. Trump’s speechwriter stepped up to take responsibility for that screw-up, but it remains to be seen how Melania will fare after very little experience addressing the public.

3.) Real estate firm Zumper has compiled its list of the priciest cities in which to rent across America, and Philadelphia came in at number 15. It turns out that the most expensive place to rent in Philadelphia is University City, where median rents top $1,900 a month. Across Philadelphia as a whole, the median monthly rent is $1,400 for a one-bedroom apartment, which is an increase of 4.5 percent from last month. Two-bedroom units have seen significant price hikes since last year, with the median rent of $1,570 coming in at 12 percent higher than this time in 2015. According to Philly.com, “Philadelphia is immediately behind Providence, Rhode Island. San Francisco remains at the top of the list, with median monthly rentals at $3,420.”

Happy Halloween, everyone!
