Still bummed that Bernie Sanders didn’t get the nomination for the Democratic Party’s presidential candidacy? Just an admirer of the charismatic and intelligent Senator? You’ll be excited to know that you can feel the Bern at an upcoming event held at the Free Library of Philadelphia, where Sanders will promote his new book. Entitled Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, Sanders’ book shares stories from his campaign trail and “and maps out his ideas to continue the fight for all Americans’ futures,” as per a press release.
Sanders will be speaking at the event, which will be held Monday, November 28th at 7 p.m. at the Parkway Central Library on 1901 Vine Street. He will join Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman, who will also speak at the appearance. There won’t be any book signings or photo opportunities, the Library says, but each ticket ($30 apiece) includes a free copy of Sanders’ new book. Tickets go on sale October 19th at noon on the Free Library’s website. Here’s hoping the demand doesn’t crash the site like it did when the library hosted Bruce Springsteen for a book appearance a few weeks ago, as many would-be ticket buyers were locked out of the system.
Bernie Sanders won 1,843 delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention here in Philadelphia, compared to Hillary Clinton’s 2,838. That’s 46% of the electorate; a strong showing by anyone’s standards. Although unsuccessful in his presidential run, Sanders built up a tremendous following. He was especially popular among young male voters, who referred to themselves as “Bernie bros.” Sanders’ progressive ideas about democracy and other topics were considered a breath of fresh air for his supporters, who were many. A seasoned statesman, Sanders served nine years in the U.S. Senate, 16 years in the House of Representatives, and three terms as the mayor of Burlington, Vermont.
