With Valentine’s Day right around the corner (which is to say, two short days away), hopefully you already have all the components in place for a romantic night with your significant other. You’ve booked the reservation at their favorite restaurant, you’ve selected the perfect card, you’ve procured chocolate, and you already know where you’ll pick up fresh roses on Sunday morning… I mean, you HAVE done all these things, right? If not, let’s just say that you should probably get on doing them soon, or you might find yourself in the doghouse on the most romantic day of the year.
According to the financial website WalletHub, if you are spending Valentine’s Day in Philadelphia, you might be running at a disadvantage. The site ranked Philadelphia close to dead last when it was listing the top 100 cities where couples could spend a romantic V-Day across America. The (unscientific) ranking assessed not only how romantic each city was, but in addition how expensive it was to finance Valentine’s Day in those cities. The website ranked the cities in 15 areas, which included the number of attractions throughout the city, the average cost of dining out, and the number of florists and chocolatiers per capita.
Keeping those things in mind, Philadelphia ranked 95th overall. This dismal ranking encompassed several others: a ranking of “96th for Valentine’s Day Budget, 30th for Valentine’s Day Activities, 58th for Valentine’s Day Gift Accessibility and 46th for Valentine’s Day Weather Forecast,” according to Jill Gonzalez, a Wallet Hub analyst. Gonzalez explained that one of the biggest buzzkills in Philadelphia regarding Valentine’s Day was the fact that it is an expensive city overall, so dining out and buying gifts all come with high price tags. There also aren’t as many places to buy flowers and chocolate as there are in other cities. Philadelphia Valentine’s Day revelers probably have to do more planning ahead and order things online… something that probably isn’t possible this close to the big day.
The one bit of good news? Philadelphia ranked higher than other cities in terms of the number of attractions, meaning that there are plenty of date night activities, restaurants, and cafes available at which you could spend a romantic night out.
