1.) The fall rental report by aggregator site Zumper showed that Philadelphia had the 14th most expensive rental market in the country. The median rental rate for a single-bedroom unit stood at $1,300. The price for two-bedroom units fell by 0.7 percent to $1,390. Of course, where you go in town remains the single biggest factor in how much you will pay. Logan Square boasts the highest rents in town, with a one-bedroom unit going for a median price of $1,850. Belmont came in the lowest, at just $500 per month. If the rates for life in Philadelphia sound high, keep in mind that there are areas of San Francisco where the rent comes in at $3,620!
2.) Sylvester Stallone, hero of the “Rocky” franchise and a Philadelphia treasure, returned to town last week. He was in town to celebrate what Mayor Michael Nutter dubbed “Creed Day,” after the name of the newest film in the “Rocky” franchise, set to release over Thanksgiving. Naturally Stallone returned to the steps of the Art Museum, which he famously climbed in the original “Rocky” movie almost 40 years ago. “Creed” is the story of Apollo Creed, the son of Rocky’s adversary from the first two movies in the series.
3.) Philadelphia Magazine recently profiled the 50 Best Bars in the city. According to editors, the hardest part was narrowing down the list to only 50 locations! Arthur Etchells, the Senior Editor at Philadelphia Magazine’s Foobooz, was tasked with visiting and rating the establishments, a process that took a year and a half. The American Sardine Bar of Point Breeze ranked on top of the list. Other notable listees? Khyber Pass of Old City at #2, Townsend Restaurant of East Passyunk at #4, and Franky Bradley’s in Midtown Village at #7.
