The pope is expected to speak on immigration issues and religious freedom in his speech on Independence Mall. During his two-day trip to Philadelphia he will also visit a prison and celebrate a public mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, as well as attending the closing of the World Meeting of Families.

Tickets to the speech will also be given out to parishes with large immigrant audiences, which officials say is to ensure a diverse audience.

News about the pope’s visit has dominated Philadelphia media in recent weeks. Most recently, the Secret Service released security information about what visitors would not be allowed to bring within the large, fenced security perimeter that will surround parts of Center City where the pope is anticipated to be. On the prohibited list are selfie sticks, balloons, coolers, both real and toy guns, and a large variety of other items. There are also walking-only “traffic boxes” throughout the city, and several bridges and streets will be closed during the papal visit.
