Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama will be honored with the Liberty Medal in October.

Having enough of hearing about the pope and his September visit? Perhaps the Philadelphia sojourn of another world religious leader is more to your liking. The Dalai Lama will be visiting Philly in October, just a month after Pope Francis makes his visit. He will also be in town for only two days.

The Dalai Lama will be honored with the Liberty Medal in October.

The Dalai Lama will be in town to receive the Liberty Medal, but he will also be attending two events that are open to the public. Tickets are required for both events. The first stop on his trip will be at La Salle University, where he’ll be giving a public teaching on the Eight Verses for Training the Mind at 1pm on Monday, October 26th. Tickets for that went on sale yesterday and sold out within two hours. Tickets are still available for the second event, a public forum at Temple University’s Liacouras Center called Finding Happiness in Troubled Times: Educating the Heart in the 21st Century that will take place at 9:30 in the morning. Tickets can be bought at DalaiLamaPhilly.org.

It’s expected that tickets to the Liberty Medal Ceremony held at the National Constitution Center the night of Monday, October 26th will go on sale in September. The Dalai Lama is being honored with the medal for his work towards the worldwide spread of compassion, freedom, and tolerance. The Dalai Lama, who is the 14th incarnation of that title, lives in exile in India, where he leads a Tibetian government in exile.
