Philadelphia just got a little bit sweeter. The 10th outlet of Carlo’s Bakery, the sweet shop owned by TLC reality show star Buddy Valastro, is due to open in Rittenhouse Square on May 30th. Carlo’s, which already has stores in Marlton, Morristown, Red Bank, Ridgewood and Westfield, New Jersey, Times Square, and the Venetian in Las Vegas, is coming to 2101 Walnut Street. It is the fourth Carlo’s location outside of New Jersey. A new bakery at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun casino is forthcoming, as well as a partnership with Norwegian Cruise Lines to bring bakeries to their ships. An 11th location in Westfield, New York will open later this year. The original Carlo’s Bakery is in Hoboken, New Jersey. The bakery is co-owned by the five Valastro siblings.
Valastro, star of “Cake Boss” and “Next Great Baker,” announced the forthcoming addition to the bakery family on Twitter and Facebook. He will be present at the grand opening of the new Carlo’s, which will take place at noon on Saturday. Members of the Philadelphia Council and Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will also be present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Valastro cited Philadelphia’s “rich history” and wide variety of things for people of all ages to see and do as reasons why he wanted to expand Carlo’s into the area.
There have been six seasons of “Cake Boss” on TLC, with the show having been renewed this past January for two more. The show focuses not only on the sweet creations made by Buddy and his family, but on the interpersonal relationships between the family members as well.
