The Huffington Post recently published a list entitled Five Must Have Experiences for Luxury Travelers in Philadelphia. Unlike so many lists centered around Philly’s can’t-miss attractions (the Liberty Bell, et cetera), this one was aimed exclusively at well-heeled visitors looking for some of the more premium experiences offered by The City of Brotherly Love.

I’ve listed the top three of those five experiences, with my own commentary.

1.) The Art – There’s no doubt that Philadelphia’s art scene is rocking. Specifically mentioned was the Barnes Foundation and its astounding 181 Renoirs and 69 Cezannes, situated in a “non-traditional” environment for a museum. Of course, the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Rocky!) gets a shout-out as well, including the fact that its exhibits span 2,000 years.

2.) High Tea at Mary Cassatt Tea Room – HuffPo couldn’t say enough about the experience of an afternoon taking high tea at the tea room in the Rittenhouse Hotel. The hotel is a five-star wonder, and the tea experience follows suit. The list mentions the gorgeous architecture of the room, the great service, the live harpist, and the yummy treats to be had. Overall, it sounds like a delightfully sensual way to spend a few hours.

3.) Stratus Rooftop Lounge at the Hotel Monaco – Small plates and great drinks are what’s on the menu at the rooftop lounge of another of the city’s beautiful lodgings. Rooftop bars aren’t as plentiful in Philly as in other cities, making Stratus a true delight indeed. The fact that the Hotel Monaco is “steps away” from Independence Hall and the Bell makes this a great end to a day of sightseeing.
