The long angles of Johansson's new home lend it an offbeat appeal.

2014 was a banner year for Scarlett Johansson. She reprised her role as the Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, she gave birth to her first child, and she bought some new real estate. Turns out that Johansson slipped right below radar with the purchase of her latest home, an angular 1940s beauty sitting on almost a full acre of land. Given how often celebrities’ yearning for privacy is thwarted by the all-seeing eye of the press, this was some kind of feat.

Johansson reportedly dropped $3.88 million on her newest home, says Variety magazine. She bought the home from a source that remains unnamed, a “former high fashion model-turned-Chicago-based construction magnate.” The home is situated in the trendy Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, at the end of a sleepy cul-de-sac. One can see the Hollywood sign from the second floor. It boasts two stories, four bedrooms, and four-and-two-half baths over 3,500 square feet. Seclusion is a big part of the home’s charm – its yard is very private, with a terrace, swimming pool, grill area, spa, and poolside cabana. The interior of the home has been entirely refurbished with espresso-tinted wood floors, glass sliders, and any number of luxe updates. The master suite, located upstairs, boasts its own sitting area and fireplace. Turns out this wasn’t even Johansson’s first real estate purchase in 2014 – last January she spent $2.2 million on a Hamptons beach house. The actress has bought and sold a number of properties during the last few years, including a 1930s Outposts Estate home on which she lost $3 million.
