The midcentury home is full of both timeless appeal and contemporary charm.

It feels sometimes like everyone in Hollywood has a palatial home. That’s not actually the case. Take, for instance, Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor, who stars in the recently-released “Nightcrawler,” recently sold the home he’s owned for the last ten years. With a modest 2,826 square feet and just two bedrooms, the home is reminiscent of something that mighty be inhabited by a normal Joe. It sits on two acres of lushly-manicured yard, with stunning views of the surrounding Hollywood Hills.

The midcentury home is full of both timeless appeal and contemporary charm.

The home, which is gated for privacy, is both adorable and chic. It was originally built in 1948 and embodies the much-desired midcentury modern feeling. White walls and carefully-selected neutral furnishings contribute to a light, bright interior, along with plenty of tall windows showing off canyon views and the lush back yard. Walking trails crisscross the acreage. There’s a lovely pool, a detached office, and plenty of flexible living space. High ceilings distinguish the great room, and there’s a media room replete with fantastic built-ins. Of course, a bombtastic home security system is included as well.

No word yet on where Gyllenhaal will be hanging his hat now that the house has sold. He was seen checking out a townhome in NYC’s TriBeCa as well as a SoHo penthouse back in the spring, so who knows if those are possibilities? Something tells me that he’s got enough in the bank to scoop up at least one new place, though, so he’ll probably be okay! Gyllenhaal originally bought his (now former) home for $2.5 million back in 2005, and listed it for $3.5 million. It sold for $3,262,500.
