The Thursday Three: A Garden of One’s Own

garden

With the city rising all around it, the very unlikeliness of this little garden is what makes it so lovable.

In any big city, green space is at a premium. Oh, sure, Philly has its public parks and gardens – and in Center City, with our squares, we are spoiled for choicer in that regard – but there’s something special about a bit of greenery that belongs to you. A garden of one’s own, if you will. There’s nothing like a patch of sunny earth to make a home feel complete, and that completeness is a feeling that you can – yes! – find right here locally.

Today’s Thursday Three showcases three homes with pretty gardens, and not a one among them costs a million (or even three-quarters of a million) dollars! Whether your fancy is cultivating pretty blooms, cooking out, or simply lounging in the sunshine, one of these might just be perfect for you.

Seen from above, the graceful path of this flowery slice of heaven makes a pretty picture. I love the addition of ample potted plants to really fill up the space and create an image of denser greenery surrounding the pavers.

Wide and versatile, this garden is a warm-weather hangout par excellence! There’s plenty of space for both dining and relaxing, as you can see – and a nice, light-catching area that would be ideal for a small herb and veggie plot.

With the city rising all around it, the very unlikeliness of this little garden is what makes it so lovable. A string of fairy lights on the fence would be the absolute finishing touch on this romantic retreat.
