The decision to buy or sell a home is one of the most important financial decisions most people make in a lifetime. According to the 2010 National Association of Realtors survey, 88% of home sellers used and agent when listing their homes. This is because real estate transactions are complicated, and if you’re like most home sellers, all your assets are on the line. The most important piece of advice that we can give you when looking for a real estate agent is do your research and choose the agent that is right for you.
Choosing the right agent can save you time, effort and aggravation in finding the perfect home at a price you can afford or selling your home quickly for top dollar. Home sellers tend to look to their agent to price their home competitively, find a buyer, market their home for potential buyers and, of course, sell their home within a specific timeframe.
A recent National consumer survey conducted in 2010 indicated that the selection of an agent for selling a home is most heavily influenced by negotiating skills/ability to close a sale (88%) and real estate company reputation/market share (84%) (see below).
A number of other factors rated high in importance in the eyes of home sellers, including commission rate (75%), marketing plan (73%), real estate company has a large number of listings (72%), previous experience in working with the agent (69%) & referral by family/friends (67%).
