Multiple sources are reporting that Federal Donuts, the trendy Pennsport restaurant that serves only gourmet coffee, donuts and fried chicken, will soon open a second location at 1608 Sansom Street. The ultra successful Federal Donuts was born from a partnership between Michael Solomonov (Zahav and Percy Street BBQ), Steven Cook, Bob Logue (Bodhi Cofee) and Thomas Henneman. The new Federal Donuts Center City location will be about the same size as the Pennsport location and could open in the next few months once approvals are in place.
About Federal Donuts
From their own words:
Cake donuts, both fancy and hot & fresh sugared to order, from 7am until they sell out. Korean-style fried chicken starting at 11:45am: crispy (Buttermilk Ranch, Harissa, or Za’atar) or glazed (Chili-Garlic, Honey Ginger). Monday to Thursday, chicken line is minimal and we usually have the goods until around 3pm. On Saturday and Sunday things are much busier, and we run chicken until 7pm or it sells out. We only sell three things at Federal Donuts: handmade donuts, P.T.’s Coffee and Korean-style, twice-fried chicken. Mike Solomonov of Zahav and Percy Street Barbecue is our chef, and he’s eaten more fried chicken and donuts than he cares to recall. We open daily at 7am with plenty of fancy donuts, which are usually gone by 11am or so. We also sell hot donuts fried to order all the time. Fried chicken starts at 11:45 am daily, and runs until we sell out or 3 pm on weekdays; Saturday and Sunday it’s sell out or 7pm. (Federal Donuts Website)
