Another Philly Shake Shack is Open!

Shake Shack, a burger joint with a cult following, has just opened its latest location in Philadelphia. The fast-casual chain, known for their scrumptious food and, of course, milkshakes, opened the doors on its restaurant on the southeast corner of 12th and Chestnut Streets this past Tuesday. The storefront fills a vacancy left by the former bakery Philly Cupcakes.

There are now seven Shake Shacks in Philly, meaning that you are never far from your craving fix. The other locations include 20th and Sansom Streets in Center City (which is the oldest location, having opened in 2012), two at King of Prussia Mall, 3200 Chestnut St. in University City, and one inside the Wells Fargo Center. But Shake Shack isn’t done yet: they are still planning to open new stores at Garden State Park in Cherry Hill and Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia.

Shake Shack likes to give back to the community that houses it, so the proceeds from its RSVP-only soft opening on Monday were donated to the Attic Youth Center, a nonprofit foundation that serves Philadelphia’s LGBTQ youth by creating new job opportunities.

The chain is thrilled with the location of the new store, says Doug Green of MSC Retail, who represents Shake Shack’s real estate interests in the Philadelphia market, because the corner “represented the confluence of everything Shake Shack looks for in an urban location — strong daytime population, seven-day-per-week shopping cotenancy, and a neighborhood that is in high growth mode” for people who live there.

This particular Shake Shack boasts proximity to the coming Fashion District Philadelphia, which was formerly known as The Gallery. Within a stone’s throw on the same block are Target, PetSmart, and Fine Wine & Good Spirits. There are also several quality restaurants in the area, like Iron Hill, Honeygrow, Luke’s Lobster, Wrap Shack, Devon & Blakely, and MilkBoy.
