SEPTA , the public transportation company serving the Philadelphia Real Estate community, will spend up to $129.5 million to modernize it’s fare collection systems. ACS Transport Solutions Group, a Maryland-based division of the Xerox Corporation will be handling the upgrades. The new system is scheduled to take effect in 2013 and will utilize a “multimodal” fare collection system that will allow riders to pay using a contactless credit card, wireless device, key fob or smart phone. Anyone who has ever been to New York knows how significant this upgrade will be for riders of Philadelphia’s public transportation system.
