Franklin Institute Progressing On Nicholas And Athena Karabots Pavilion
The Franklin Institute begin construction back in April to expand its 78-year-old building in the Logan Square neighborhood of Center City, Philadelphia. The new Franklin Institute expansion, named the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion,will add 53,000 square feet by 2014 and will be the permanent home to a new human brain exhibit. The new Franklin Institute pavilion will be LEED certified at the Silver level, ensuring that The Franklin Institute does its best to help the environment by reducing energy use which will in turn save money for the Institute.
Nicholas And Athena Karabots Pavilion
The Nicholas And Athena Karabots Pavilion exterior (rendering below) will be completed with Indiana limestone like as the current building but it incorporate modern features that include a “shimmer wall” by artist Ned Kahn.
Your Brain Exhibit
The Nicholas And Athena Karabots Pavilion will house a new exhibit entitled “Your Brain”. This exhibit will have 30 state of the art interactive elements demonstrating how the brain works. “Your Brain” will be located in the Frank Baldino, Jr. Gallery, named for long time benefactor former Trustee of The Franklin Institute.

The Franklin Institute (named after the noted American scientist and statesman Benjamin Franklin) is a museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and one of the oldest centers of science education and development in the United States, dating to 1824. The Institute also houses the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial.
