The Roots Mural Coming To South Street
South Street – The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program recently announced a mural planned for the corner of 6th Street and South Street that will honor The Roots – a Grammy award winning band formed in Philadelphia. The Roots got their start by playing live music on South Street and the the mural will tell the band’s history from those early days up to the present day. A team of local artists is painting this the Roots Mural: David Guinn, Ernel Martinez, Charles Barbin, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Willis Humphrey and Keir Johnston. The Roots founders Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter will be the main focus of the mural. The final product is expected to be complete by October of this year.
