We previously mentioned that the The Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation hoped to build a 23-story, 265-foot-high residential and office tower, with a community center on the ground floor, on two lots at the northwest corner of Vine and 10th streets.  The PCDC recently got closer to actually breaking ground.  The Philadelphia City Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the Zoning Board of Adjustment grant the PCDC the zoning measures that are needed for the project to move forward.

In order to build the project, which includes about 12,000 square feet of retail space, 15,000 square feet of office space, 144 residential units and a 24-car garage, the project needs two bits of zoning relief…The current code requires a project of this size to have at least 70 spaces, and it does not allow for a loading dock at the proposed location, across Pearl Street from the bulk of the development.

The measure to greatly reduce the number of parking spots needed what supported because of the project’s proximity to public transportation.
