Brooklyn Transplant BARCADE Now Open in Fishtown

The latest New York transplant to hit Philly is sure to be a fan favorite.  Barcade, part bar part arcade, was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and merges American Craft Beer and Classic Arcade Games and is officially open for business in the Fishtown neighborhood.  Located at 1114 Frankford Avenue between Girard Avenue and the Delaware Expressway, Barcade offers classic video games like Asteroid, Centipede, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac Man, Tetris, Punch Out and CONTRA!  (Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A Select Start).  Additionally, Barcade offers a large selection of craft beer.

Here’s a little history on the bar and its founders from the website:

 In 2004, five friends came together and opened their own bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Each had been working in either film/tv or graphic design in New York and four of them had attended Syracuse University together. They were enthusiastic about American craft beer and had grown up in the 1980’s playing classic arcade games. Looking to start their own business, they decided to take a chance and combine the two passions.  Barcade is a bar with a dual focus; an endless rotation of American craft beer and an equally eclectic lineup of classic arcade games.  In 2010, work began on two new locations; Jersey City, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. Jersey City would be first to open its doors on April 22, 2011.

Barcade is known nationally for two reasons.  First, many world record holders and world class gamers frequent the Brooklyn location including the world record holder for Donkey Kong.  Second, all Barcade locations are 100% wind powered.  The owners purchase wind energy for the Philadelphia location from a combination of wind generated turbines in New York and Pennsylvania.
