City Planning Commission Impressed With Central Delaware Waterfront Plan – Delaware River Waterfront Corporation President Tom Corcoran gave the commission a presentation describing the several new public parks every half-mile, mixed use residential development, and the new/improved connections between the river and the adjacent neighborhoods.   The plan focuses first on areas where publicly owned land could be redeveloped quickly – areas around Pier 53/Washington Avenue, Penn’s Landing and the Festival Pier – and the theory that public investment there would spur private development nearby. American Philosophical Society Museum Installing Greenhouse At Jefferson Garden In Old City The APS Museum is installing a protable, environmentally sustainable, vine covered greenhouse in Jefferson Garden this fall.  This initiative is part of a public program called “The Greenhouse Projects”.  The APS Museum invited five Philadelphians — architect Jenny Sabin, composer Kyle Bartlett, actor Aaron Cromie, radio producer Lari Robling and historian Erin McLeary — to create innovative programs that use new technology to explore the history, science, and art of post-revolutionary France in a modern context.  The Greenhouse will be officially unveiled to the public on Friday, September 9.  (www.Uwishunu.com)

Mortgage Refinance Activity Increases, Purchase Activity DeclinesThe Refinance Index increased 8.0 percent from the previous week, but was 16.3 percent lower than the same week last year. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index decreased 9.1 percent from one week earlier.  Unprecedented volatility in the stock market last week amid additional signs that the economy has slowed led to further drops in mortgage rates, with the 15-year rate reaching a new low for the MBA survey.  Purchase application activity fell sharply over the previous week, likely the result of potential homebuyers hesitant to purchase in this highly volatile and uncertain environment.
