Answer me this:
We all can agree that public transit in this city is pretty poor and if you’ve answered yes to the questions above, there’s a ton of interweb buzz about a new service called Uber. I’ve read about Uber just about everywhere from Technically Philly & Tech Crunch and even articles from to those, like Curbed Philly, who question its validity in our fair city. Uber is a car service that uses mobile apps instead of the antiquated whistle and flag down to bring people around the city in luxury cars. Uber just launched in the past week or so with some cool promotions and its the services 11th city. Uber’s cost is a bit more then a cab but less then a limo service, which suits most professionals and groups headed out around town. I personally think the best part of the Uber service is the fact that it requires no money transaction because your credit card information is stored securely on the application. Imagine all the times you called it quits at the end of a night just to get the stink eye, or even refusal, for using the credit card machine found in the back of cabs. Here’s some more information from the Uber website:
Uber is an on-demand car service that allows everyone to have a private driver experience through iPhone, SMS, and web based requests. We are a technology startup that has created a more efficient means of transportation, making your city more useful and more pleasurable to move around in. Uber connects clients and our network of professional town car and limo drivers in the simplest most elegant way possible, and we do it at a fraction of the cost.
We are a friend to the client first, pushing the limits of the industry to create a simple more efficient car service experience for users. Second, we are a friend and revenue stream to our network of drivers, allowing them to make more money by turning their downtime into profits. Lastly, we’re an ally to “the system” playing by the rules of the industry and promoting safety and improved conditions for consumers.
Uber is expanding rapidly. Check out the cities that we’re in right now at: https://www.uber.com/learn or visit Uber on twitter or on the Uber blog.
