Pitcairn Properties converted 1500 Chestnut Street, a high-rise apartment building purchased in June 2004, to The Ellington, a 160-unit luxury condominium. Toward this end, Pitcairn has undertaken a $14 million renovation to The Ellington’s interior. The Ellington lobby features custom millwork, an Italian marble floor, 14-foot vaulted ceilings and crystal pendant chandeliers. Other common area renovations include a beautifully furnished clubroom with a library and plasma-screen TV and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The one- and two-bedroom residences and two-story penthouse units feature 10-foot ceilings, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors and full-size GE washers and dryers. Pitcairn has also installed brand-new, oversized, fully operable, energy efficient windows in all units to maximize views, light and air. Kitchens feature granite countertops and breakfast bars, European Poggenpohl cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Bathrooms include marble tiling and Kohler fixtures. The Ellington is part of Chestnut Street’s in-progress transformation.
