sparklers

There are only six short days until Christmas, which means that you have probably got all your Christmas partying out of your system, whether at the office White Elephant Swap or your own rockin’ ugly sweater shindig. Sure, Christmas hasn’t passed yet, but it’s not two soon to start thinking of the party of the year (literally) – New Year’s Eve.

I myself will be watching Ryan Seacrest schmooze B-list celebrities all night until the ball drops while eating takeout and drinking Prosecco, but I’m going to assume that you, unlike me, have a life. While the bars and clubs of Center City all will have keynote events lined up for the occasion, perhaps bottle service and loud music aren’t your thing. If you want an event that the whole family can and will enjoy, I recommend Rivers Casino New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront down at Penn’s Landing.

There will be two fireworks shows, one at six PM that is perfect for younger families that can’t hang all the way until 2020, and another at midnight, to ring in another glorious Philadelphia new year.

Wondering the best spot to stake out for the show? VisitPhiladelphia.com has your answer:

The Delaware River Waterfront, both Philadelphia and New Jersey sides, features fantastic views of the fireworks display. Get a front-row view from the Blue Cross RiverRink WinterFest, Penn’s Landing, the Battleship New Jersey and more.

Both fireworks presentations will last approximately fifteen minutes apiece. Not surprisingly, the weather will be cold, especially at the late-night show. Instead of dressing to impress, choose accessories that dazzle, like headbands with 2020 emblazoned on them, statement earrings, and light-up gloves. Just don’t set off any jumbo rockets or other explodables… stick to sparklers.

Don’t stay out too late ringing in the New Year, however – the famous, can’t-miss Mummer’s Parade is the next day!
