Getting engaged is SO exciting… but, after the thrill wears off and you stop conspicuously flashing your left hand at the deli counter, you now have a wedding to plan. This can certainly be fun, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming. Photographer, caterer, band, cake baker, linens… some of Philly’s best wedding venues will have coordinators to make some of this easier, but you’re going to be heavy on decisions no matter how you do it. You can crowdsource reliable vendors’ names from friends on Facebook or Instagram, but this can result in a lot of voices coming at you from all directions. What you need is a one-stop shop for trusted wedding pros, preferably one that knows the ins and outs of Philly weddings.
Enter Flutter Social. This app, developed here in Philadelphia by Kaleigh Gallagher and Marcie Reilly, aims to connect couples with wedding vendors that suit their style, taste, and budget. The duo are not wedding planners by trade, but rather tech experts working for Ohio-based Cleveland Clinic. The two compared notes on planning their own weddings, plus helping with those of friends, and conceived of the idea to streamline the planning process by making the vendor-matching stage easier. Flutter Social will celebrate one full year of business on Thursday – Valentine’s Day.
Couples start the process by completing a survey that gives the platform’s algorithm a sense of what style wedding is being planned, along with special touches desired and a budget range. From there, say the creators:
Based on their needs, the company will pair them with three or four ideal vendors based on budget, style and connections to businesses or people within their network.
What separates Flutter Social from planning giants like The Knot is the local flavor it imparts with specialized, intimate knowledge of the Philadelphia area. Flutter Social doesn’t take payments from vendors to appear on their site, and curates the list of vendors closely, paying attention to trends and businesses that can offer unique services.
