Is Golden Tate the Cure for What Ails the Eagles?
Welcome to Philadelphia, Golden Tate. Feel that weight on your shoulders? It’s the hopes and dreams of the Super Bowl champion Eagles, who are experiencing a major championship hangover and currently need all the help that they can get.
Tate apparently found out about his trade before even his agent. He knew that he was being courted by a few teams, including the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots. But it was Philadelphia who won the talented wide receiver, who was traded for a third-round draft pick. Upon hearing the news, Tate said that he was in a state of shock.
“My mouth kind of dropped a little bit,” Tate said. “I read all the articles. I talked to my agent several times. I think I found out before my agent did. It was a shock. It was kind of information overload; it was only two minutes of talking. It kind of threw me off. ⌠Realistically, my brain didn’t wrap around it until it actually happened.”
The Golden Hype was well and alive upon Tate’s arrival in the City of Brotherly Love. In fact, Tate described how many football fans he met on the flight into Philly, and how excited and welcoming they were. He says that he’s excited to be wearing the Eagles uniform and for a chance at the playoffs with his new team.
The newest Eagle, who stands 5 ft. 10 in. and weighs 197 pounds, is known for his strong legs and for being one of the League’s best receivers following the catch. He leads the NFL in YAC (yards after catch) nsince 2016 with 1,528, according to Next Gen Stats. That makes him a key target for QB Carson Wentz to aim at when he’s in the pocket.
The Eagles have a bye-week for Week 9, so Tate has some time to study up and learn the plays he’ll need to stand up to the Cowboys next week.
