This Autumn’s a Big One for Philly Music Acts
If you love going to shows to see your favorite artists, you are going to have a lot of chances to spend your coin this fall as an absolute torrent of noteworthy performers come to Philly and Philly-area venues.
The opening of the Met Philadelphia in late autumn is super exciting for music fans, who will have a new, acoustically-incredible venue at which to see favorites. No less than Bob Dylan will open the Met on December 3rd, followed by Weezer on December 12th and Ween on the 14th. English Top 40 crooner Ed Sheeran will take the stage at Lincoln Financial Field on September 27. The Wells Fargo Center is not slouching either, with Bruno Mars (ft. Boyz II Men) on September 19 and 20; J. Cole on October 6; Gorillaz on October 11; and indie favorite Florence & the Machine on October 14. A BIG DEAL show at Wells Fargo on September 15 and 16 will be Canadian sensation Drake with the Atlanta rap trio Migos. I KNOW that you’ve been bopping to “In My Feelings” allllll summer long, so you won’t want to miss this one!
Childish Gambino, alias of actor Donald Glover, will be bringing his politically-woke lyrics and addictive hooks to Wells Fargo Center on September 18th – less than a week away!
On the 20th at the Kimmel Center, you can rock out at beloved singer/songwriter Joan Baez‘s farewell tour. From Philly.com:
“Her Joe Henry-produced album Whistle Down the Wind benefits from the added gravitas in her septuagenarian voice, which has lost its former excessive prettiness”
Along with Paul Simon and Elton John, Baez has announced that she will not be touring anymore. So don’t miss your chance to see a legend.
And let’s not forget about the annual Philly Music Festival, which will take place at various venues September 27 – 30th. This nonprofit event features some exceptional Philly acts, including Pissed Jeans, bassist Derrick Hodge and pianist Eric Wortham, Low Cut Connie, Waxahatchee, the Districts, Palm, and Orion Sun.
