The Palm on Broad Street is one of Center City’s sexiest restaurants. It’s located inside the Bellevue Hotel at 200 S. Broad Street and is part of a beloved, 90-year-old restaurant chain. The Palm was just renovated two years ago, and now the restaurant has higher ceilings, a rebuilt floor, and a relocated bar. One of the most noticeable changes to come out of the facelift was the vibrant art that graced the walls. The Palm has long been known for its collection of vivid caricatures of local figures. During the reno, the people on whom the drawings were based were allowed to come pick up their sketch if they wished; the ones remaining stay part of The Palm’s collection. Now adorning the wall is work by The Palm’s in-house artist, Zack Bird. The newest update to Bird’s fanciful, colorful work is an Eagles mural that will commemorate the 2018 Super Bowl winning team.
The mural depicted in the picture above is not the one at The Palm, but gives a great example of the breadth and vibrancy of Bird’s work.
Just as The Palm is known for its juicy and succulent steaks and lobster dishes, Bird, of the eponymous Bird Studio, is known for his eye-catching murals. From the studio’s “murals” page:
Our studio takes great pleasure in the production of bold large scale installations that speak to both the viewer and the surrounding environment.
Whether the goal is civic engagement or decorative imbellishment, Bird Studio brings the planning, talent and equipment to ensure the end result is a high profile success.
Bird’s Super Bowl mural will feature the stars of the Philly football team’s winning lineup, including Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, Doug Pederson, Foles, Wentz, Kelce, and Jenkins, plus 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Brian Dawkins.
Want to get a peek at the Eagles mural yourself? Show up at The Palm on September 5th at 5 in the afternoon for the mural’s official dedication. On hand will be co-owner Wally Ganzi and Mayor Jim Kenney. All are welcome to come out and appreciate the beautiful art.
While you are at The Palm you can take part in the restaurant’s charity drive, which benefits the Broad Street Ministry.
