Amazon is a big buzzword in Philadelphia right now. Not just because patrons of the City of Brotherly Love enjoy getting their Prime shipping on just like the rest of us, but because Philly is being considered as one of the likelier bidders for Amazon’s HQ2 project. In the meantime, while the online shopping giant collects bids and continues to make news, it has dispatched something exciting into Philadelphia. Right now, and for the near future, the Amazon Treasure Truck will be roaming the streets!
Promising a fun way for customers to shop for “new, trending, local or delicious items,” the Treasure Truck carries a mystery inventory of goodies, which are revealed to Philadelphia shoppers on a surprise basis as limited-time deals. Shoppers see the deal, decide to make a purchase, and are given a time and location as to where the truck will be when it is time for them to pick up their item(s). The Treasure Truck is a new Amazon promotional product, designed to bring attention to the shopping giant’s lightning-fast shipping and inventory of useful, attractive, and highly variable items.
It used to be that the Treasure Truck was confined to the Seattle area where Amazon’s main headquarters is located, but it has since taken to the road, making stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Houston, Boston, Orlando, Miami and San Diego, among others. But the big blue truck will be in Philadelphia for a while.
“Once a truck is launched in a city, it is there to stay,” an Amazon spokeswoman was quoted, “so Philadelphians can expect to see three to four offers a month.” Consumers will find out the first deal the morning that it is launched if they have the Amazon shopping app, which is available for both Apple and Android devices.
