Former First Lady Michelle Obama Coming to Philly This Fall

Philadelphia is known for drawing notable visitors. The latest luminary to grace the City of Brotherly Love is former first lady Michelle Obama, who will arrive in Philly this fall. Mrs. Obama will be speaking as part of the Pennsylvania Conference of Women. The conference, held at the Philadelphia Convention Center, will draw an expected crowd of over 10,000 people. It’s the region’s largest women’s conference, promising a “full day of networking, inspiration, professional development and personal growth.”

Leslie Stiles, the women’s conference board president, enthused about the scheduled presence of the beloved former first lady in a press release: “We are honored and thrilled to have Michelle Obama, one of the most respected women in the world, join us at this year’s conference. With her career-long devotion to improving the lives of children, increasing nutrition awareness, and advocating for equal access to education, Michelle Obama’s impact clearly extends beyond her White House years.”

The Pennsylvania Conference for Women is a nonprofit and nonpartisan group that tries to promote personal development and professional growth for women in a variety of fields. Experts in business, philanthropy, finance, media, and leadership will be on hand to teach classes and give talks on subjects that matter to today’s woman. According to the Philadelphia Patch, last year’s conference was headlined by Anita Hill and included guests like actress Mindy Kaling and soccer pro Abby Wambach.

The Patch put succinctly why Mrs. Obama is such a good fit for the conference: “In choosing the former first lady, the organization touted four of her key initiatives from her time in the White House: Let’s Move, aimed at childhood obesity, Joining Forces, to support veterans, Reach Higher, to improve access to higher education for young people, and Let Girls Learn, to empower adolescent girls around the world to become educated.”
