There are millions of fun facts about the City of Brotherly Love!

We all know that Philly can get some epic snowstorms in the winter. One of those took place on December 8th, 2013, which happened to be the same day that the NFL’s Detroit Lions played the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The City of Brotherly Love got dumped on with more snow during that game than they did all winter in the previous year. Talk about playing under adverse conditions!

Philadelphia “Iggles” fans are widely known as some of the most… umm… passionate in the NFL. Because of the amounts of fights and other problems happening during games, the Eagles took the drastic step in 1998 of installing a courtroom and jail underneath the field to process offenders without having to leave stadium grounds.

If you have visited the Liberty Bell (and who hasn’t?) you’ve noticed that the state of “Pensylvania” is referred to. This wasn’t a typo by the Founding Fathers, just so you know. It was actually an accepted spelling of Pennsylvania Back in The Day. The same version of the word appears in the Constitution and shows up again on maps in Independence Hall.

Philadelphia is an artsy city. Just how much, you might ask? Well, the city is home to more Impressionist paintings than any other in the world besides Paris and its Rodin Museum. Speaking of Rodin, Philly has more of the sculptor’s work than any city outside of Paris.

Not only is Philly artsy, it’s literary too. The United States’ first daily newspaper, “The Philadelphia Packet and Daily Advertiser”, first went to press in Philadelphia in 1784. It stayed in publication for six years.

One last one: back when it was first founded, the Philadelphia mint took several years to produce its first million coins. Today, it can make that many in less than an hour.
