Horror Festival to Bring Thrills and Chills to Philadelphia
Are you a horror fan? I’ve always been one of those people who covers her eyes at the scary parts of movies, but I know some folks live for that sort of thing. If you are one of them, you’ll be excited to hear about the Wizard World Horror Fest, coming to the Philadelphia Convention Center on the weekend of June 1-4.
The Wizard World Horror Fest will bring legends from some of America’s best-loved horror classics together.
One big feature of the Wizard World Horror Fest will be a screening of the beloved slasher classic, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. It’s the thirtieth anniversary of the Freddy Krueger-featured screamfest, which some genre fanatics would argue is the best of the series. Written by horror legend Wes Craven and directed by Chuck Russell, the screening is sure to be a highlight of the convention. It will feature live commentary by star Heather Langenkamp. Afterwards, Langenkamp will participate in a question and answer panel. As another accompaniment to the film, the singer Don Dokken, whose band Dokken was responsible for the Elm Street 3 soundtrack song, “Dream Warriors,” will give an acoustic performance.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “The Horror Fest is also hosting screenings of 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with special guest Kristy Swanson, and Fred Dekker’s classic 1987 horror-comedy The Monster Squad, which will be attended by stars Andre Gower and Ryan Lambert. The lineup of new big screen terror tales, meanwhile, includes the Tribeca-screened Super Dark Times and director Steven De Gennaro’s terrifying genre-satire, Found Footage 3D.” I know I would be excited about seeing the original Buffy, since the TV series written by Joss Whedon and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as the eponymous Vampire Slayer was a formative part of my middle- and high school experience.
This will be the first-ever Horror Fest, and it will be produced by Wizard World, Inc. in conjunction with Bloody-Disgusting.com, a premier horror website.
