Proving once again that Philadelphia is considered an important part of the presidential race, Hillary Clinton and her VP pick, Tim Kaine, will be back in town Saturday for what is far from the first time this fall – or even this month. Clinton and Kaine will be appearing in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, long considered to be Democratic strongholds that carry the rest of the state to Team Blue. The exact time and location of their appearances have yet to be announced, although it is known that they will be open to the public.
While previous campaign stops in Philadelphia and elsewhere have focused on getting citizens signed up to vote, Clinton and Kaine have changed their tactics (as is appropriate with the election just three weeks away) and are now focusing on GOTV – getting out the vote. They are aiming voters at a Dem-produced website that encourages people to vote, whether by absentee ballot or in person. Current polls show Clinton and Kaine with an almost million-vote edge over Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the Keystone State, mostly due to the strong Democratic voter base in Pennsylvania’s two biggest cities.
Democrats aren’t the only group pushing to GOTV. The AFL/CIO has recently stated that it will contribute “100,000 volunteer hours” to knock on 1 million doors over the final three weeks of the campaign towards getting people to vote – specifically for Clinton and Kaine.
