Labor Day weekend is just about upon us and, with it, the official end of summer. Have you made any plans for how you are going to spend your long weekend? Curbed Philly has! The site blogged about 9 Cheap Things to Do In Philadelphia for Labor Day. After all, who wants to spend a lot of money having a good time? The listicle was full of great ideas as to how you can have fun spending very little… or, in some cases, nothing at all. Here’s an abridged sampling of some of the ideas. For the full list, go check out the link above.
1.) Hang out in Spruce Street Harbor Park
Since it has been so successful in previous years, Spruce Street Harbor Park will remain open through September 25th. This temporary village on Penn’s Landing features floating gardens, craft beer and yummy food, and lots of hammocks where you can lounge and catch a nice breeze. It’s already one of the coolest places to be in Philly all summer, and spending Labor Day weekend here would ensure you went out of the dog days with a bang.
2.) Get in free to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Sure, everyone else will be at the beach – that’s why it’s such a great idea to buck the trend and visit the Museum of Art. Sunday, September 4th is Pay-What-You-Wish Day, which means that, if you are so inclined, you can visit the Museum’s exhibits for absolutely nothing. (Or you could throw in a few bucks. Your choice.) Enjoy the A/C and get your culture on while everyone else is roasting down at the shore.
3.) Boat around Bartram’s Garden
You’re on a boat! Okay. Outdated cultural references aside, boating is some serious fun. On Saturday, September 3rd, you can borrow a boat from Bartram’s Garden and cruise the Schuylkill for 30 minutes between the hours of 11AM and 3PM. Take in the sights, enjoy the warm sunshine, and get your Labor Day outside time on.
