Prepare yourselves, Philadelphia - the snow is coming.

Break out your snowsuits, Philadelphia – we’ve got a lot of the white stuff coming this weekend.

A state of emergency has been declared in Pennsylvania ahead of Winter Storm Jonas, which is due to rage across the Northeast this weekend. Forecasters call for at least a foot of snow to get dumped on the state, with snowfall up to 18 inches in some parts. The Philadelphia area is expected to get a lot of heavy, wet snow and blizzard conditions will be in place, with wind gusts over 50 miles per hour possible.

Prepare yourselves, Philadelphia – the snow is coming.

The snow is expected to start late Friday night. It will continue through Saturday and into Sunday morning. The storm has jokingly been referred to as “a student’s worst nightmare,” because school kids will likely still get in a full day of school on Friday, and things will be back to normal by Monday morning. No snow days here!

Governor Wolf explained that declaring a state of emergency preemptively “allows the commonwealth to deliver state resources wherever they’re needed as quickly as possible.” In a press release, he stated that “”We have multiple state agencies working at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to monitor weather conditions across the state and we will respond to help local governments and residents in need.”

Along with the blizzard warning there is also a coastal flood warning for the Jersey Store and along Delaware Bay. As the storm is expected to impact most of the major cities in the Northeast, several airlines are allowing passengers to change flights without charge for the weekend. Check with your carrier for details if you were planning on flying into or out of the region this weekend.
